WEBVTT
00:00:18.146 --> 00:00:19.188 align:center
Yeah!
00:00:21.563 --> 00:00:22.480 align:center
Yeah!
00:00:26.730 --> 00:00:27.771 align:center
Woo-hoo!
00:00:45.313 --> 00:00:46.688 align:center
What the--
00:00:47.980 --> 00:00:49.021 align:center
Pauly!
00:00:50.063 --> 00:00:51.938 align:center
- Son of a…
- Leave him! He's fine!
00:00:52.021 --> 00:00:53.355 align:center
Just stay on their tail!
00:00:53.438 --> 00:00:54.771 align:center
I got an idea.
00:00:57.646 --> 00:00:59.771 align:center
Hey! Where'd it go? Do you see it?
00:00:59.855 --> 00:01:02.188 align:center
I don't! I… I can't see it!
00:01:02.271 --> 00:01:04.855 align:center
You're dead meat, Henderson!
00:01:04.938 --> 00:01:06.480 align:center
She's right! We can't keep running
00:01:06.563 --> 00:01:08.563 align:center
if we can't even see
what we're running from!
00:01:14.980 --> 00:01:16.188 align:center
Whoa!
00:01:21.188 --> 00:01:24.563 align:center
And if that thing
doesn't get us, then these guys will!
00:01:26.521 --> 00:01:28.896 align:center
Not necessarily!
00:01:29.438 --> 00:01:31.813 align:center
Ow! Hey! Watch it!
00:01:35.521 --> 00:01:36.938 align:center
Hey! You see it?
00:01:37.688 --> 00:01:39.230 align:center
Oh, I see it!
00:01:39.313 --> 00:01:43.563 align:center
Okay, okay, okay.
Charlie, I'm gonna need you to trust me.
00:01:45.271 --> 00:01:47.396 align:center
Whatever you want! Just do it fast!
00:01:47.980 --> 00:01:49.271 align:center
In that case…
00:01:57.146 --> 00:01:58.230 align:center
Brake now!
00:01:59.396 --> 00:02:01.396 align:center
You really think you can--
00:02:05.146 --> 00:02:09.646 align:center
You freaking genius, Henderson!
Hell yeah! Hell yeah!
00:02:10.230 --> 00:02:11.063 align:center
Ride!
00:02:12.730 --> 00:02:14.271 align:center
You got a ping on the ghost?
00:02:15.021 --> 00:02:17.146 align:center
Working on it!
00:02:17.230 --> 00:02:19.230 align:center
- Whoa!
- Ah! Ah! Ah!
00:02:22.521 --> 00:02:24.730 align:center
Come on, baby. Come on!
00:02:25.813 --> 00:02:26.646 align:center
It's got me!
00:02:26.730 --> 00:02:27.771 align:center
Hold on, dweeb!
00:02:32.938 --> 00:02:34.021 align:center
Got it!
00:02:37.188 --> 00:02:38.646 align:center
Uh-oh!
00:02:48.646 --> 00:02:49.730 align:center
I got you now.
00:02:51.396 --> 00:02:53.771 align:center
Hey Charlie! You ever play chicken?
00:02:54.646 --> 00:02:56.396 align:center
Have I ever played chicken?
00:03:01.480 --> 00:03:02.980 align:center
On my mark!
00:03:04.271 --> 00:03:06.105 align:center
End of the line, Dandridge!
00:03:16.188 --> 00:03:17.521 align:center
Henderson!
00:03:24.188 --> 00:03:25.105 align:center
Now!
00:03:39.063 --> 00:03:42.313 align:center
We're not out of the woods yet!
Go, go, go!
00:03:44.063 --> 00:03:46.688 align:center
Faster, faster, Charlie!
00:03:46.771 --> 00:03:48.355 align:center
I hear ya! I hear ya!
00:04:01.563 --> 00:04:04.938 align:center
It can't keep going without the flowers.
00:04:05.021 --> 00:04:06.355 align:center
Did we lose it?
00:04:06.438 --> 00:04:10.313 align:center
No more dodging, Mr. Dandridge.
Just drive.
00:04:10.396 --> 00:04:11.688 align:center
With pleasure!
00:05:24.771 --> 00:05:28.813 align:center
Fear? That's what it's been after
this whole time?
00:05:28.896 --> 00:05:31.438 align:center
Think about it. It all adds up.
00:05:31.521 --> 00:05:35.021 align:center
Wait, wait.
I thought you said this thing was a ghost.
00:05:35.105 --> 00:05:38.521 align:center
Have you ever seen a ghost try
to feed someone to man-eating flowers?
00:05:38.605 --> 00:05:40.730 align:center
I've never seen a ghost, period.
00:05:40.813 --> 00:05:43.355 align:center
How am I supposed to know
what they can and can't do?
00:05:43.438 --> 00:05:45.646 align:center
Eh, he's got a point.
00:05:45.730 --> 00:05:46.938 align:center
We have to face it.
00:05:47.646 --> 00:05:49.105 align:center
This was the Upside Down.
00:05:49.688 --> 00:05:50.688 align:center
Max was right.
00:05:51.396 --> 00:05:52.980 align:center
She's been right all along.
00:05:53.605 --> 00:05:57.105 align:center
But this isn't like any creature
we've ever seen before.
00:05:57.688 --> 00:06:01.730 align:center
Wait a second. Back at the séance,
I hit it with some liquid nitro.
00:06:01.813 --> 00:06:04.896 align:center
Dude, a chunk froze loose,
and I grabbed it.
00:06:04.980 --> 00:06:06.480 align:center
What in the world?
00:06:07.021 --> 00:06:08.271 align:center
Wait a second.
00:06:10.688 --> 00:06:13.896 align:center
It's pollen, just like
the Hate Sprites were harvesting.
00:06:13.980 --> 00:06:15.938 align:center
This thing is made of pollen.
00:06:16.021 --> 00:06:19.230 align:center
That's why it evaporated
when we led it away from the flowers.
00:06:19.313 --> 00:06:20.646 align:center
And why it disappeared
00:06:20.730 --> 00:06:22.980 align:center
when El shredded the flowers
in the garden shed.
00:06:23.063 --> 00:06:26.563 align:center
Because this thing isn't a ghost.
00:06:30.146 --> 00:06:31.438 align:center
It's a Lich.
00:06:33.730 --> 00:06:37.563 align:center
These guys are obsessed
with gathering power.
00:06:37.646 --> 00:06:40.730 align:center
We're way past spooky one-off hauntings.
00:06:40.813 --> 00:06:45.355 align:center
Liches think big, like world-endingly big.
00:06:45.438 --> 00:06:47.813 align:center
With all the hauntings
and the Hate Sprites,
00:06:47.896 --> 00:06:51.396 align:center
it's turning Hawkins
into its own personal fear energy grid.
00:06:51.480 --> 00:06:52.730 align:center
But for what?
00:06:52.813 --> 00:06:56.480 align:center
It's not like there's a gate open.
El would've sensed it if there was.
00:06:56.563 --> 00:06:59.730 align:center
I don't know,
but that energy drain is brutal.
00:06:59.813 --> 00:07:01.980 align:center
We have to stop it
before it gets any worse.
00:07:02.063 --> 00:07:04.980 align:center
Liches store the power they collect
in their lair.
00:07:05.063 --> 00:07:09.105 align:center
We destroy the power stash,
and we destroy The Lich.
00:07:09.188 --> 00:07:11.480 align:center
You think that lair might be
the end of the road
00:07:11.563 --> 00:07:12.980 align:center
for those Hate Sprites?
00:07:13.063 --> 00:07:16.605 align:center
It's as good a guess as any.
But how the heck do we tail a swarm?
00:07:16.688 --> 00:07:18.396 align:center
What about trapping a sprite?
00:07:18.480 --> 00:07:20.188 align:center
Do you think it'd lead us to the lair?
00:07:20.271 --> 00:07:21.855 align:center
If you wanna go rustling…
00:07:21.938 --> 00:07:23.855 align:center
Hey. You okay?
00:07:24.896 --> 00:07:30.896 align:center
I want to help,
but every time I try, I am useless.
00:07:30.980 --> 00:07:31.813 align:center
What?
00:07:32.396 --> 00:07:34.480 align:center
No, you're not useless.
00:07:34.563 --> 00:07:37.521 align:center
At school, useless.
00:07:37.605 --> 00:07:40.230 align:center
At the cabin, useless.
00:07:40.313 --> 00:07:43.480 align:center
That's not true.
You did the best you could.
00:07:43.563 --> 00:07:46.480 align:center
On the road, useless.
00:07:46.563 --> 00:07:49.188 align:center
That man almost died.
00:07:49.271 --> 00:07:54.521 align:center
I am supposed to protect you.
I am supposed to keep everyone safe.
00:07:54.605 --> 00:07:56.605 align:center
That is why I am here.
00:07:57.938 --> 00:07:59.896 align:center
You're here because you're our friend.
00:07:59.980 --> 00:08:02.605 align:center
Do you think we just like you
because you can defend us?
00:08:03.688 --> 00:08:05.938 align:center
I think you like me because…
00:08:07.230 --> 00:08:13.313 align:center
I am brave and strong
and always have your back.
00:08:14.938 --> 00:08:17.896 align:center
And I am scared of what will happen
00:08:18.480 --> 00:08:19.521 align:center
if I don't.
00:08:22.646 --> 00:08:24.396 align:center
If you can't defend us,
00:08:24.480 --> 00:08:27.438 align:center
then you have to trust
we can defend ourselves.
00:08:27.521 --> 00:08:29.271 align:center
We're not useless, El.
00:08:29.355 --> 00:08:32.771 align:center
And even if you can't fight,
you aren't useless either.
00:08:34.896 --> 00:08:36.438 align:center
That's it!
00:08:36.521 --> 00:08:40.605 align:center
The Hate Sprites are collecting power
through flower pollen, right?
00:08:40.688 --> 00:08:44.480 align:center
Well, guess what I can see
through my handy-dandy camera?
00:08:44.563 --> 00:08:47.438 align:center
This is how we figure out
their delivery route,
00:08:47.521 --> 00:08:49.480 align:center
right to The Lich's lair.
00:08:49.563 --> 00:08:53.855 align:center
We'll need to go high, way up there,
tall enough to survey the whole town.
00:08:57.146 --> 00:08:59.188 align:center
We might know the perfect spot.
00:09:02.313 --> 00:09:05.521 align:center
Okay. Okay. Let's see.
00:09:07.480 --> 00:09:08.771 align:center
Oh, crud.
00:09:11.105 --> 00:09:12.563 align:center
Double crud.
00:09:13.146 --> 00:09:14.230 align:center
What?
00:09:17.980 --> 00:09:18.896 align:center
Oh.
00:09:18.980 --> 00:09:20.146 align:center
Triple crud.
00:09:20.230 --> 00:09:21.980 align:center
Here, let me see.
00:09:23.480 --> 00:09:25.105 align:center
Oh no.
00:09:25.896 --> 00:09:29.771 align:center
Hawkins is covered in pollen.
00:09:29.855 --> 00:09:34.021 align:center
Following the pollen trail
to The Lich's lair is a non-starter.
00:09:34.105 --> 00:09:37.605 align:center
If pollen's everywhere, we're nowhere.
00:09:45.646 --> 00:09:47.021 align:center
Um…
00:09:47.105 --> 00:09:48.688 align:center
Is it supposed to do that?
00:09:48.771 --> 00:09:49.855 align:center
Yeah, it's fine.
00:09:49.938 --> 00:09:52.188 align:center
Dude, these babies have seen some battles.
00:09:52.271 --> 00:09:53.521 align:center
They just need some…
00:09:56.605 --> 00:09:58.396 align:center
There we go. Good as new.
00:10:02.146 --> 00:10:04.688 align:center
These all look
like they could use some serious fixes.
00:10:04.771 --> 00:10:07.355 align:center
Do you need to swing by the hardware store
to buy new parts?
00:10:07.438 --> 00:10:09.688 align:center
What? Not everyone's
just got cash sitting around
00:10:09.771 --> 00:10:12.230 align:center
for fun little shopping sprees, Byers.
00:10:15.230 --> 00:10:16.771 align:center
Great.
00:10:16.855 --> 00:10:18.855 align:center
This is the part I'm not gonna miss.
00:10:19.521 --> 00:10:20.521 align:center
"Miss"?
00:10:21.021 --> 00:10:25.230 align:center
Uh, just about done here. We should head
out if we wanna meet up with the others.
00:10:25.313 --> 00:10:27.438 align:center
- Hey, Nikki.
- What?
00:10:27.521 --> 00:10:31.896 align:center
You said "miss," like you're leaving.
00:10:31.980 --> 00:10:34.563 align:center
And before, I'm pretty sure I remember
00:10:34.646 --> 00:10:38.313 align:center
you talking about this being
your last mission with The H.I.C.
00:10:38.980 --> 00:10:40.063 align:center
What's going on?
00:10:40.146 --> 00:10:41.063 align:center
Uh…
00:10:41.646 --> 00:10:44.688 align:center
I'm sorry. I shouldn't have
snapped at you like that. Just…
00:10:46.230 --> 00:10:48.563 align:center
Look, there's not gonna be
any hardware store runs
00:10:48.646 --> 00:10:52.021 align:center
or replacement parts. I can't swing it.
Not right now, at least.
00:10:53.396 --> 00:10:54.480 align:center
I'm kind of…
00:10:54.563 --> 00:10:57.896 align:center
We're hurting for cash right now,
me and my mom.
00:10:58.521 --> 00:11:03.063 align:center
Why didn't you tell me?
I… I understand family money problems.
00:11:03.146 --> 00:11:06.730 align:center
Yeah, yeah, I know,
but it's not just that.
00:11:06.813 --> 00:11:10.188 align:center
Dude, my mom's been working herself
to the bone to keep us here,
00:11:10.271 --> 00:11:14.480 align:center
even though I was the one
who made us stay. It's not fair to her.
00:11:14.563 --> 00:11:19.230 align:center
So, I have to help out and get a job.
00:11:20.146 --> 00:11:23.146 align:center
After this, that's gotta be my priority.
00:11:25.938 --> 00:11:27.438 align:center
No more H.I.C.
00:11:39.855 --> 00:11:41.896 align:center
What's taking those dweebs so long?
00:11:42.480 --> 00:11:44.730 align:center
They have been up there a while.
00:11:45.813 --> 00:11:48.188 align:center
Hey! You see anything?
00:11:48.271 --> 00:11:49.396 align:center
Working on it!
00:11:49.480 --> 00:11:52.230 align:center
This is impossible.
00:11:52.313 --> 00:11:55.355 align:center
How are we supposed to find anything
in this?
00:11:55.438 --> 00:11:59.396 align:center
It's so freaking bright, like, everywhere.
00:12:04.438 --> 00:12:05.396 align:center
Bright?
00:12:05.980 --> 00:12:08.438 align:center
Hang on a sec.
Remember back in the AV room?
00:12:08.521 --> 00:12:12.938 align:center
The image was too bright,
so we turned down the gain and…
00:12:14.021 --> 00:12:16.521 align:center
Holy macaroni! I see it.
00:12:16.605 --> 00:12:20.980 align:center
These trails, they're where
the pollen is more concentrated.
00:12:21.063 --> 00:12:24.188 align:center
So, they must be the paths
that the Hate Sprites have taken.
00:12:24.271 --> 00:12:26.230 align:center
Directly to The Lich.
00:12:36.521 --> 00:12:39.021 align:center
Dustin! Slow down!
00:12:39.105 --> 00:12:41.563 align:center
Come on, guys! Keep up!
00:12:42.480 --> 00:12:43.855 align:center
It goes through here!
00:12:48.355 --> 00:12:53.813 align:center
It was always gonna lead right back here.
00:12:54.896 --> 00:12:56.771 align:center
Daniel's lab.
00:13:11.646 --> 00:13:14.355 align:center
It can't be a coincidence, can it,
00:13:15.146 --> 00:13:19.063 align:center
that The Lich picked here of all places?
00:13:19.146 --> 00:13:22.146 align:center
Who knows what other experiments
Daniel was up to
00:13:22.230 --> 00:13:24.063 align:center
before his creation ate him?
00:13:26.271 --> 00:13:29.271 align:center
Any one of them could've spawned The Lich.
00:13:32.688 --> 00:13:34.980 align:center
El, see any Hate Sprites?
00:13:35.063 --> 00:13:37.230 align:center
No, not yet.
00:13:53.355 --> 00:13:54.438 align:center
Hate Sprite.
00:13:55.105 --> 00:13:57.063 align:center
Dead Hate Sprite.
00:13:57.146 --> 00:13:58.146 align:center
Guys…
00:14:00.896 --> 00:14:02.521 align:center
What in the…
00:14:04.521 --> 00:14:06.521 align:center
Hey, uh…
00:14:06.605 --> 00:14:10.480 align:center
Do they have that
in your monster book, Henderson?
00:14:15.646 --> 00:14:17.063 align:center
Whoa.
00:14:17.146 --> 00:14:20.938 align:center
Is that supposed to look like a person?
00:14:21.021 --> 00:14:24.521 align:center
It's like it has a muscular system.
00:14:24.605 --> 00:14:26.938 align:center
Yeah, made of what? Roots?
00:14:27.021 --> 00:14:30.896 align:center
Is this why The Lich needs
to harvest fear? To make these?
00:14:30.980 --> 00:14:34.396 align:center
If it is, it's been busy.
00:14:37.313 --> 00:14:39.230 align:center
I will check the gate.
00:14:39.313 --> 00:14:42.313 align:center
Good. You guys make sure
Pandora's box is still shut.
00:14:42.396 --> 00:14:45.521 align:center
We'll check out
this nightmare goblin garden.
00:14:57.230 --> 00:15:01.563 align:center
They're all malformed, twisted.
00:15:01.646 --> 00:15:05.230 align:center
Like failed experiments?
00:15:22.105 --> 00:15:24.063 align:center
Hey! Hey! Stop!
00:15:24.146 --> 00:15:27.396 align:center
Maybe let's not throw rocks
at evil statues.
00:15:27.480 --> 00:15:28.771 align:center
Okay, dork.
00:15:36.480 --> 00:15:37.396 align:center
Whoa.
00:15:39.605 --> 00:15:40.646 align:center
Guys…
00:15:45.771 --> 00:15:49.980 align:center
Seven weird wooden creatures,
eight cocoons.
00:15:50.605 --> 00:15:52.938 align:center
I don't like that math.
00:15:53.021 --> 00:15:55.605 align:center
Whatever The Lich
was collecting power for,
00:15:55.688 --> 00:15:57.938 align:center
I think he put it to use.
00:16:45.230 --> 00:16:46.938 align:center
It is closed.
00:16:47.021 --> 00:16:49.980 align:center
Safe to say nothing's coming
out of there, right?
00:16:50.855 --> 00:16:55.063 align:center
Looks like something tried
to pry the gate open by hand.
00:16:55.646 --> 00:16:56.730 align:center
The Lich.
00:16:57.355 --> 00:17:00.646 align:center
And if we're in its secret lair,
where is it?
00:17:06.021 --> 00:17:07.813 align:center
I have an idea.
00:17:18.813 --> 00:17:22.521 align:center
Okay, but do you have to do this
in the creepy chasm?
00:17:22.605 --> 00:17:25.813 align:center
We can wait, come back later
when we know it's safe, or…
00:17:25.896 --> 00:17:28.230 align:center
I will find it now
00:17:28.313 --> 00:17:32.646 align:center
before any more people are hurt,
before things get any worse.
00:18:15.230 --> 00:18:20.021 align:center
So, do we just, like,
stare at this chick or…
00:18:20.105 --> 00:18:24.146 align:center
Can you please explain to me
why Dirtbag Charlie had to tag along?
00:18:24.230 --> 00:18:28.313 align:center
Like I already explained,
we need all the help--
00:18:28.396 --> 00:18:30.355 align:center
Uh, guys…
00:18:39.646 --> 00:18:42.771 align:center
One Hate Sprite.
It gets close enough, I got it.
00:19:12.730 --> 00:19:16.480 align:center
That's it?
A little light show, then roll credits?
00:19:16.563 --> 00:19:18.605 align:center
Nothing can help those ugly things.
00:19:19.230 --> 00:19:21.980 align:center
Would you quit it with the rocks?
00:19:22.063 --> 00:19:23.980 align:center
Chill out, hall monitor.
00:19:32.813 --> 00:19:35.021 align:center
Of course they're gonna come alive.
00:19:35.813 --> 00:19:38.313 align:center
Uh, this is messed up.
00:19:42.521 --> 00:19:46.855 align:center
Those golems definitely woke up
on the wrong side of the bed.
00:19:46.938 --> 00:19:48.563 align:center
What's the game plan, Mike?
00:19:48.646 --> 00:19:52.146 align:center
If El can't find The Lich now,
she'll lose her chance.
00:19:52.230 --> 00:19:53.730 align:center
We have to buy her some time.
00:19:56.688 --> 00:19:58.438 align:center
Whoa! Ah!
00:20:06.771 --> 00:20:08.730 align:center
Smooth shooting, Mad Max!
00:20:11.146 --> 00:20:12.896 align:center
- Whoa!
- Not smooth enough.
00:20:14.855 --> 00:20:17.938 align:center
If they won't stay down,
we'll have to put 'em down.
00:20:22.938 --> 00:20:26.063 align:center
Sure! Easy. Just put 'em down.
00:20:26.146 --> 00:20:27.605 align:center
Quit it with the rocks, huh?
00:20:40.730 --> 00:20:44.480 align:center
Uh, Mike, how much more time does El need?
00:20:46.063 --> 00:20:48.313 align:center
As much time as we can give her.
00:20:49.730 --> 00:20:51.063 align:center
Don't touch her!
00:20:57.396 --> 00:20:58.855 align:center
- Will!
- On it!
00:21:08.521 --> 00:21:09.521 align:center
Zombie Boy!
00:21:24.896 --> 00:21:26.230 align:center
Listen up, H.I.C.!
00:21:26.313 --> 00:21:30.146 align:center
Zombie rules!
Kill the head, kill the golem!
00:21:31.688 --> 00:21:32.730 align:center
Back off!
00:21:34.271 --> 00:21:35.980 align:center
Ah! Get away!
00:21:47.646 --> 00:21:49.188 align:center
- Not bad.
- Thanks.
00:21:51.896 --> 00:21:53.063 align:center
I meant me.
00:22:15.063 --> 00:22:17.313 align:center
Piece of cake. Am I right?
00:22:17.396 --> 00:22:19.105 align:center
I found The Lich.
00:22:46.771 --> 00:22:48.646 align:center
It is building something.
00:23:15.105 --> 00:23:17.355 align:center
This is not right.
00:23:17.438 --> 00:23:21.938 align:center
It is like
The Lich is in two places at once.
00:23:22.896 --> 00:23:27.355 align:center
The Lich's mind is in a golem,
00:23:27.438 --> 00:23:31.730 align:center
but their body is somewhere else.
00:23:35.855 --> 00:23:37.688 align:center
It is Daniel.
00:23:39.188 --> 00:23:41.896 align:center
Daniel is The Lich.
