WEBVTT
00:18.146 --> 00:19.188
Yeah!
00:21.563 --> 00:22.480
Yeah!
00:26.730 --> 00:27.771
Woo-hoo!
00:45.313 --> 00:46.688
What the--
00:47.980 --> 00:49.021
Pauly!
00:50.063 --> 00:51.938
- Son of a…
- Leave him! He's fine!
00:52.021 --> 00:53.355
Just stay on their tail!
00:53.438 --> 00:54.771
I got an idea.
00:57.646 --> 00:59.771
Hey! Where'd it go? Do you see it?
00:59.855 --> 01:02.188
I don't! I… I can't see it!
01:02.271 --> 01:04.855
You're dead meat, Henderson!
01:04.938 --> 01:06.480
She's right! We can't keep running
01:06.563 --> 01:08.563
if we can't even see
what we're running from!
01:14.980 --> 01:16.188
Whoa!
01:21.188 --> 01:24.563
And if that thing
doesn't get us, then these guys will!
01:26.521 --> 01:28.896
Not necessarily!
01:29.438 --> 01:31.813
Ow! Hey! Watch it!
01:35.521 --> 01:36.938
Hey! You see it?
01:37.688 --> 01:39.230
Oh, I see it!
01:39.313 --> 01:43.563
Okay, okay, okay.
Charlie, I'm gonna need you to trust me.
01:45.271 --> 01:47.396
Whatever you want! Just do it fast!
01:47.980 --> 01:49.271
In that case…
01:57.146 --> 01:58.230
Brake now!
01:59.396 --> 02:01.396
You really think you can--
02:05.146 --> 02:09.646
You freaking genius, Henderson!
Hell yeah! Hell yeah!
02:10.230 --> 02:11.063
Ride!
02:12.730 --> 02:14.271
You got a ping on the ghost?
02:15.021 --> 02:17.146
Working on it!
02:17.230 --> 02:19.230
- Whoa!
- Ah! Ah! Ah!
02:22.521 --> 02:24.730
Come on, baby. Come on!
02:25.813 --> 02:26.646
It's got me!
02:26.730 --> 02:27.771
Hold on, dweeb!
02:32.938 --> 02:34.021
Got it!
02:37.188 --> 02:38.646
Uh-oh!
02:48.646 --> 02:49.730
I got you now.
02:51.396 --> 02:53.771
Hey Charlie! You ever play chicken?
02:54.646 --> 02:56.396
Have I ever played chicken?
03:01.480 --> 03:02.980
On my mark!
03:04.271 --> 03:06.105
End of the line, Dandridge!
03:16.188 --> 03:17.521
Henderson!
03:24.188 --> 03:25.105
Now!
03:39.063 --> 03:42.313
We're not out of the woods yet!
Go, go, go!
03:44.063 --> 03:46.688
Faster, faster, Charlie!
03:46.771 --> 03:48.355
I hear ya! I hear ya!
04:01.563 --> 04:04.938
It can't keep going without the flowers.
04:05.021 --> 04:06.355
Did we lose it?
04:06.438 --> 04:10.313
No more dodging, Mr. Dandridge.
Just drive.
04:10.396 --> 04:11.688
With pleasure!
05:24.771 --> 05:28.813
Fear? That's what it's been after
this whole time?
05:28.896 --> 05:31.438
Think about it. It all adds up.
05:31.521 --> 05:35.021
Wait, wait.
I thought you said this thing was a ghost.
05:35.105 --> 05:38.521
Have you ever seen a ghost try
to feed someone to man-eating flowers?
05:38.605 --> 05:40.730
I've never seen a ghost, period.
05:40.813 --> 05:43.355
How am I supposed to know
what they can and can't do?
05:43.438 --> 05:45.646
Eh, he's got a point.
05:45.730 --> 05:46.938
We have to face it.
05:47.646 --> 05:49.105
This was the Upside Down.
05:49.688 --> 05:50.688
Max was right.
05:51.396 --> 05:52.980
She's been right all along.
05:53.605 --> 05:57.105
But this isn't like any creature
we've ever seen before.
05:57.688 --> 06:01.730
Wait a second. Back at the séance,
I hit it with some liquid nitro.
06:01.813 --> 06:04.896
Dude, a chunk froze loose,
and I grabbed it.
06:04.980 --> 06:06.480
What in the world?
06:07.021 --> 06:08.271
Wait a second.
06:10.688 --> 06:13.896
It's pollen, just like
the Hate Sprites were harvesting.
06:13.980 --> 06:15.938
This thing is made of pollen.
06:16.021 --> 06:19.230
That's why it evaporated
when we led it away from the flowers.
06:19.313 --> 06:20.646
And why it disappeared
06:20.730 --> 06:22.980
when El shredded the flowers
in the garden shed.
06:23.063 --> 06:26.563
Because this thing isn't a ghost.
06:30.146 --> 06:31.438
It's a Lich.
06:33.730 --> 06:37.563
These guys are obsessed
with gathering power.
06:37.646 --> 06:40.730
We're way past spooky one-off hauntings.
06:40.813 --> 06:45.355
Liches think big, like world-endingly big.
06:45.438 --> 06:47.813
With all the hauntings
and the Hate Sprites,
06:47.896 --> 06:51.396
it's turning Hawkins
into its own personal fear energy grid.
06:51.480 --> 06:52.730
But for what?
06:52.813 --> 06:56.480
It's not like there's a gate open.
El would've sensed it if there was.
06:56.563 --> 06:59.730
I don't know,
but that energy drain is brutal.
06:59.813 --> 07:01.980
We have to stop it
before it gets any worse.
07:02.063 --> 07:04.980
Liches store the power they collect
in their lair.
07:05.063 --> 07:09.105
We destroy the power stash,
and we destroy The Lich.
07:09.188 --> 07:11.480
You think that lair might be
the end of the road
07:11.563 --> 07:12.980
for those Hate Sprites?
07:13.063 --> 07:16.605
It's as good a guess as any.
But how the heck do we tail a swarm?
07:16.688 --> 07:18.396
What about trapping a sprite?
07:18.480 --> 07:20.188
Do you think it'd lead us to the lair?
07:20.271 --> 07:21.855
If you wanna go rustling…
07:21.938 --> 07:23.855
Hey. You okay?
07:24.896 --> 07:30.896
I want to help,
but every time I try, I am useless.
07:30.980 --> 07:31.813
What?
07:32.396 --> 07:34.480
No, you're not useless.
07:34.563 --> 07:37.521
At school, useless.
07:37.605 --> 07:40.230
At the cabin, useless.
07:40.313 --> 07:43.480
That's not true.
You did the best you could.
07:43.563 --> 07:46.480
On the road, useless.
07:46.563 --> 07:49.188
That man almost died.
07:49.271 --> 07:54.521
I am supposed to protect you.
I am supposed to keep everyone safe.
07:54.605 --> 07:56.605
That is why I am here.
07:57.938 --> 07:59.896
You're here because you're our friend.
07:59.980 --> 08:02.605
Do you think we just like you
because you can defend us?
08:03.688 --> 08:05.938
I think you like me because…
08:07.230 --> 08:13.313
I am brave and strong
and always have your back.
08:14.938 --> 08:17.896
And I am scared of what will happen
08:18.480 --> 08:19.521
if I don't.
08:22.646 --> 08:24.396
If you can't defend us,
08:24.480 --> 08:27.438
then you have to trust
we can defend ourselves.
08:27.521 --> 08:29.271
We're not useless, El.
08:29.355 --> 08:32.771
And even if you can't fight,
you aren't useless either.
08:34.896 --> 08:36.438
That's it!
08:36.521 --> 08:40.605
The Hate Sprites are collecting power
through flower pollen, right?
08:40.688 --> 08:44.480
Well, guess what I can see
through my handy-dandy camera?
08:44.563 --> 08:47.438
This is how we figure out
their delivery route,
08:47.521 --> 08:49.480
right to The Lich's lair.
08:49.563 --> 08:53.855
We'll need to go high, way up there,
tall enough to survey the whole town.
08:57.146 --> 08:59.188
We might know the perfect spot.
09:02.313 --> 09:05.521
Okay. Okay. Let's see.
09:07.480 --> 09:08.771
Oh, crud.
09:11.105 --> 09:12.563
Double crud.
09:13.146 --> 09:14.230
What?
09:17.980 --> 09:18.896
Oh.
09:18.980 --> 09:20.146
Triple crud.
09:20.230 --> 09:21.980
Here, let me see.
09:23.480 --> 09:25.105
Oh no.
09:25.896 --> 09:29.771
Hawkins is covered in pollen.
09:29.855 --> 09:34.021
Following the pollen trail
to The Lich's lair is a non-starter.
09:34.105 --> 09:37.605
If pollen's everywhere, we're nowhere.
09:45.646 --> 09:47.021
Um…
09:47.105 --> 09:48.688
Is it supposed to do that?
09:48.771 --> 09:49.855
Yeah, it's fine.
09:49.938 --> 09:52.188
Dude, these babies have seen some battles.
09:52.271 --> 09:53.521
They just need some…
09:56.605 --> 09:58.396
There we go. Good as new.
10:02.146 --> 10:04.688
These all look
like they could use some serious fixes.
10:04.771 --> 10:07.355
Do you need to swing by the hardware store
to buy new parts?
10:07.438 --> 10:09.688
What? Not everyone's
just got cash sitting around
10:09.771 --> 10:12.230
for fun little shopping sprees, Byers.
10:15.230 --> 10:16.771
Great.
10:16.855 --> 10:18.855
This is the part I'm not gonna miss.
10:19.521 --> 10:20.521
"Miss"?
10:21.021 --> 10:25.230
Uh, just about done here. We should head
out if we wanna meet up with the others.
10:25.313 --> 10:27.438
- Hey, Nikki.
- What?
10:27.521 --> 10:31.896
You said "miss," like you're leaving.
10:31.980 --> 10:34.563
And before, I'm pretty sure I remember
10:34.646 --> 10:38.313
you talking about this being
your last mission with The H.I.C.
10:38.980 --> 10:40.063
What's going on?
10:40.146 --> 10:41.063
Uh…
10:41.646 --> 10:44.688
I'm sorry. I shouldn't have
snapped at you like that. Just…
10:46.230 --> 10:48.563
Look, there's not gonna be
any hardware store runs
10:48.646 --> 10:52.021
or replacement parts. I can't swing it.
Not right now, at least.
10:53.396 --> 10:54.480
I'm kind of…
10:54.563 --> 10:57.896
We're hurting for cash right now,
me and my mom.
10:58.521 --> 11:03.063
Why didn't you tell me?
I… I understand family money problems.
11:03.146 --> 11:06.730
Yeah, yeah, I know,
but it's not just that.
11:06.813 --> 11:10.188
Dude, my mom's been working herself
to the bone to keep us here,
11:10.271 --> 11:14.480
even though I was the one
who made us stay. It's not fair to her.
11:14.563 --> 11:19.230
So, I have to help out and get a job.
11:20.146 --> 11:23.146
After this, that's gotta be my priority.
11:25.938 --> 11:27.438
No more H.I.C.
11:39.855 --> 11:41.896
What's taking those dweebs so long?
11:42.480 --> 11:44.730
They have been up there a while.
11:45.813 --> 11:48.188
Hey! You see anything?
11:48.271 --> 11:49.396
Working on it!
11:49.480 --> 11:52.230
This is impossible.
11:52.313 --> 11:55.355
How are we supposed to find anything
in this?
11:55.438 --> 11:59.396
It's so freaking bright, like, everywhere.
12:04.438 --> 12:05.396
Bright?
12:05.980 --> 12:08.438
Hang on a sec.
Remember back in the AV room?
12:08.521 --> 12:12.938
The image was too bright,
so we turned down the gain and…
12:14.021 --> 12:16.521
Holy macaroni! I see it.
12:16.605 --> 12:20.980
These trails, they're where
the pollen is more concentrated.
12:21.063 --> 12:24.188
So, they must be the paths
that the Hate Sprites have taken.
12:24.271 --> 12:26.230
Directly to The Lich.
12:36.521 --> 12:39.021
Dustin! Slow down!
12:39.105 --> 12:41.563
Come on, guys! Keep up!
12:42.480 --> 12:43.855
It goes through here!
12:48.355 --> 12:53.813
It was always gonna lead right back here.
12:54.896 --> 12:56.771
Daniel's lab.
13:11.646 --> 13:14.355
It can't be a coincidence, can it,
13:15.146 --> 13:19.063
that The Lich picked here of all places?
13:19.146 --> 13:22.146
Who knows what other experiments
Daniel was up to
13:22.230 --> 13:24.063
before his creation ate him?
13:26.271 --> 13:29.271
Any one of them could've spawned The Lich.
13:32.688 --> 13:34.980
El, see any Hate Sprites?
13:35.063 --> 13:37.230
No, not yet.
13:53.355 --> 13:54.438
Hate Sprite.
13:55.105 --> 13:57.063
Dead Hate Sprite.
13:57.146 --> 13:58.146
Guys…
14:00.896 --> 14:02.521
What in the…
14:04.521 --> 14:06.521
Hey, uh…
14:06.605 --> 14:10.480
Do they have that
in your monster book, Henderson?
14:15.646 --> 14:17.063
Whoa.
14:17.146 --> 14:20.938
Is that supposed to look like a person?
14:21.021 --> 14:24.521
It's like it has a muscular system.
14:24.605 --> 14:26.938
Yeah, made of what? Roots?
14:27.021 --> 14:30.896
Is this why The Lich needs
to harvest fear? To make these?
14:30.980 --> 14:34.396
If it is, it's been busy.
14:37.313 --> 14:39.230
I will check the gate.
14:39.313 --> 14:42.313
Good. You guys make sure
Pandora's box is still shut.
14:42.396 --> 14:45.521
We'll check out
this nightmare goblin garden.
14:57.230 --> 15:01.563
They're all malformed, twisted.
15:01.646 --> 15:05.230
Like failed experiments?
15:22.105 --> 15:24.063
Hey! Hey! Stop!
15:24.146 --> 15:27.396
Maybe let's not throw rocks
at evil statues.
15:27.480 --> 15:28.771
Okay, dork.
15:36.480 --> 15:37.396
Whoa.
15:39.605 --> 15:40.646
Guys…
15:45.771 --> 15:49.980
Seven weird wooden creatures,
eight cocoons.
15:50.605 --> 15:52.938
I don't like that math.
15:53.021 --> 15:55.605
Whatever The Lich
was collecting power for,
15:55.688 --> 15:57.938
I think he put it to use.
16:45.230 --> 16:46.938
It is closed.
16:47.021 --> 16:49.980
Safe to say nothing's coming
out of there, right?
16:50.855 --> 16:55.063
Looks like something tried
to pry the gate open by hand.
16:55.646 --> 16:56.730
The Lich.
16:57.355 --> 17:00.646
And if we're in its secret lair,
where is it?
17:06.021 --> 17:07.813
I have an idea.
17:18.813 --> 17:22.521
Okay, but do you have to do this
in the creepy chasm?
17:22.605 --> 17:25.813
We can wait, come back later
when we know it's safe, or…
17:25.896 --> 17:28.230
I will find it now
17:28.313 --> 17:32.646
before any more people are hurt,
before things get any worse.
18:15.230 --> 18:20.021
So, do we just, like,
stare at this chick or…
18:20.105 --> 18:24.146
Can you please explain to me
why Dirtbag Charlie had to tag along?
18:24.230 --> 18:28.313
Like I already explained,
we need all the help--
18:28.396 --> 18:30.355
Uh, guys…
18:39.646 --> 18:42.771
One Hate Sprite.
It gets close enough, I got it.
19:12.730 --> 19:16.480
That's it?
A little light show, then roll credits?
19:16.563 --> 19:18.605
Nothing can help those ugly things.
19:19.230 --> 19:21.980
Would you quit it with the rocks?
19:22.063 --> 19:23.980
Chill out, hall monitor.
19:32.813 --> 19:35.021
Of course they're gonna come alive.
19:35.813 --> 19:38.313
Uh, this is messed up.
19:42.521 --> 19:46.855
Those golems definitely woke up
on the wrong side of the bed.
19:46.938 --> 19:48.563
What's the game plan, Mike?
19:48.646 --> 19:52.146
If El can't find The Lich now,
she'll lose her chance.
19:52.230 --> 19:53.730
We have to buy her some time.
19:56.688 --> 19:58.438
Whoa! Ah!
20:06.771 --> 20:08.730
Smooth shooting, Mad Max!
20:11.146 --> 20:12.896
- Whoa!
- Not smooth enough.
20:14.855 --> 20:17.938
If they won't stay down,
we'll have to put 'em down.
20:22.938 --> 20:26.063
Sure! Easy. Just put 'em down.
20:26.146 --> 20:27.605
Quit it with the rocks, huh?
20:40.730 --> 20:44.480
Uh, Mike, how much more time does El need?
20:46.063 --> 20:48.313
As much time as we can give her.
20:49.730 --> 20:51.063
Don't touch her!
20:57.396 --> 20:58.855
- Will!
- On it!
21:08.521 --> 21:09.521
Zombie Boy!
21:24.896 --> 21:26.230
Listen up, H.I.C.!
21:26.313 --> 21:30.146
Zombie rules!
Kill the head, kill the golem!
21:31.688 --> 21:32.730
Back off!
21:34.271 --> 21:35.980
Ah! Get away!
21:47.646 --> 21:49.188
- Not bad.
- Thanks.
21:51.896 --> 21:53.063
I meant me.
22:15.063 --> 22:17.313
Piece of cake. Am I right?
22:17.396 --> 22:19.105
I found The Lich.
22:46.771 --> 22:48.646
It is building something.
23:15.105 --> 23:17.355
This is not right.
23:17.438 --> 23:21.938
It is like
The Lich is in two places at once.
23:22.896 --> 23:27.355
The Lich's mind is in a golem,
23:27.438 --> 23:31.730
but their body is somewhere else.
23:35.855 --> 23:37.688
It is Daniel.
23:39.188 --> 23:41.896
Daniel is The Lich.
